SHOEI RF 1000

I recently got a chance to tryout a Shoei RF 100, here are my findings

Appearance of the Shoei RF 1000

The helmet I tried Has a matte black finish. It looks like a high quality finish and appears to be very aerodynamic. When I ran my hand over the surface of the shoei rf 1000 it felt very smooth, all the curves are blended well, so I assumed it was going to be a quiet helmet. Nothing appears cheaply made.

Fit of the Shoei RF1000

Installing the breath guard and chin curtain is a breeze. They just pop into place between the shell and liner at the chin bar.  I swapped the clear shield out for the light smoke shield that I like, because it is just dark enough to take some of the edge off of bright reflections from car windows and things, but not so dark that I felt unsafe using it after dark.Shoei's Quick Release Base Plate mechanism makes changing visors a breeze.  Put the visor all the way open, pull down on the little D-ring, and pop the visor out of its lock. The rf 1000 fit like a glove and it wraps around my head like no other helmet I've wore before, it didn't feel heavy at all.

Venting on the Shoei RF 1000

Venting on the RF-1000 is some of the best around. The chin vent sucks in a lot of air more than most helmets and helps keep it from fogging up. The rf 1000 brow vents are great, they suck  in a good amount of air that keeps you cool on warm days. The rear vents open and close simultaneously, I never closed them.

Visor on the Shoei RF 1000

Shoei uses the CX-V1 visor on the RF-1000, which is built to block 100% of UV Rays. The smooth, clear, design of the CX-V1 with the helmet help to reduce wind noise. The helmet boasts a 3-position lever that locks the visor in place, even at high speeds. As I discussed earlier, the Quick Release Base Plate System allows for a quick change of visors.

    Bottomline

If I had to pick one full face helment to wear everyday it would be the Shoei RF 1000. Why? The Shoei RF-series is designed to incorporate as many features as possible in a single package that does it all for the large majority of riders.  The result is an excellent daily use helmet that is my choice for the helmet I'd pick if I could only have one.
